Newcastle have reportedly enquired about Bayern Munich midfield star Joshua Kimmich

Newcastle’s reported interest in Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich has taken a hit as the midfielder does not want to join them for competitive reasons.

The Magpies have reportedly enquired about the Germany international but he is reluctant to move because he wants to compete for trophies at the highest level.

Bayern are gunning for a 12th consecutive Bundesliga title and are in the last 16 of the Champions League whereas Newcastle are 10th in the Premier League and out of Europe.

Kimmich, 28, is a seasoned defensive midfielder with 20 trophies in his club career but his Bayern future has come under the microscope.

Newcastle have asked about his availability, as reported by BILD, as they search for a Band-Aid for their injury crisis.

Liverpool and Manchester United are also reportedly prepared to do battle for him in the summer.

His Bayern contract expires in 2025 and BILD claims that there have been no talks about a renewal.

That means Bayern have just a couple of transfer windows to recoup some good cash from a sale if they don’t want to keep him.

However, he recently moved into a new villa with his family in Munich and is understood to be settled in the city, having joined Bayern in 2015.

Bayern have reportedly shown interest in bringing in a new defensive midfielder and over the summer Kalvin Phillips emerged as a possible target

Newcastle have Financial Fair Play constraints to negotiate and warned earlier this month that they could look to sell a star player to stay within the rules.

Bruno Guimaraes, Sven Botman or Alexander Isak are seen as possible candidates to be offloaded.
