Simi Awujo Named to Scholar All-America Third Team

Women’s Soccer | December 21, 2023

LOS ANGELES – The United Soccer Coaches released its list of Scholar All-Americans this week and USC women’s soccer standout Simi Awujo earned a third team nod.

Awujo’s academic recognition comes on the heels of her being named to the College Sports Communicator’s Academic All-District second team, and also to the All-Pacific Region second team and All-Pac-12 first team.

Awujo, a business administration-cinematic arts major, had a stellar junior season in the midfield for USC, appearing in 18 games and making 15 starts, while posting two assists and helping the Trojans to 10 shutouts on the year.

She is one of just two Pac-12 players to earn Scholar All-American Status this year and is the first Trojan since Penelope Hocking in 2021 (CoSida Academic All-American) to earn a national academic award. Awujo is the first USC player since Ashleigh Plumptre in 2019 to earn Scholar All-America status from the United Soccer Coaches, and is the fourth Trojan overall to garner Academic or Scholar All-American recognition (Alex Anthony – 2017, Plumptre – 2019, Hocking – 2021).
