20 ACC Players Chosen in 2024 MLS SuperDraft


CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Highlighted by six first-round selections, 20 Atlantic Coast Conference men’s soccer players were chosen Tuesday in the 2024 Major League Soccer SuperDraft. The ACC’s 20 selections and six first-round picks were the most of any conference. The 20 picks mark the second-most in league history, behind the 25 selections in the 2021 SuperDraft.
 
Duke’s Wayne Frederick was the first ACC player selected, going No. 2 overall to the Colorado Rapids. Notre Dame’s Bryan Dowd, the 2023 ACC Goalkeeper of the Year, was the No. 6 overall pick of Chicago FC.
 
Virginia’s Aidan O’Connor (12th, New York Red Bulls), Wake Forest’s Hosei Kijima (17th, St. Louis), Syracuse’s Jeorgio Kocevski (21st, Orlando City) and Virginia’s Stephen Annor Gyamfi (26th, Houston) also were chosen in the first round. Kocevski was the 2023 ACC Co-Midfielder of the Year, while Annor Gyamfi was the 2023 ACC Freshman of the Year and also signed a Generation adidas contract prior to the SuperDraft.
 
Nine ACC players were selected in the second round, while five were taken in the third round.
 
Eight ACC programs had at least one of their players selected in the SuperDraft. Clemson, Duke, Louisville, Virginia and Wake Forest each had three draft selections, while Notre Dame and Syracuse had two each and Pitt had one pick.
