Sidekicks Lose First Game of the Season to Monterrey Flash

Sidekicks Fall to Strykers on Second Match of Weekend Doubleheader

Monterrey, Mexico – The Dallas Sidekicks faced the Monterrey Flash on Sunday afternoon for the Sidekicks first game of 2023-2024 MASL season.

The first quarter was dominated by the Flash scoring three goals in the quarter. The first goal of the game was scored by the José Antonio Medina in the third minute. Three minutes later, Walter Ayoví scored and at 11:21 minutes, Edgar González scored. At the end of the quarter, the score was 0-3 Flash.


The second quarter did not start off strong for the Sidekicks allowing a goal by Roman Ramirez nine seconds after the kickoff. The Sidekicks then allowed two more goals in the first minute of the quarter. At the 3-minute mark, Sidekicks allowed another goal by José Antonio Medina. The Sidekicks finally put a stop to the Flash hot streak at 4:09 when Gustavo Piedra. The possibilities of a Sidekicks comeback fell short when a minute later, Flash player, Alexis Espinosa, scored. Unlike the first and half of the second quarter, Sidekicks ended their scoring streak early, when Sidekicks player Christian Vazquez scored with the assist by Blas Pérez. At the nine-minute mark, the Flash scored their nineth goal of the game by Jhon Ponce. At the 11-minute mark, Jamie Lovegrove scored a penalty kick making the score at halftime 3-9.

The third quarter was filled with Flash goals. The first three goals in the quarter were scored by Flash players, Jorge Luiz Cortés, Edgar Flores, and Uriel Zuart. At the 10-minute mark, Sidekicks player, Blas Pérez scored making the score 4-12. One minute later, Flash player, Erick Rosas scored. The Flash added two more goals with goals by Edgar Flores, and Edgar Gonzalez. At the end of the quarter, the score was 4-15.

In the fourth quarter, the Sidekicks subbed out veteran, Juan Gamboa, for rookie goalkeeper, Parker Lackland. Despite this, Flash added three more goals to the score before, Gustavo Piedra scored his second goal of the game. The Flash added four more goals making the final score 5-22. Flash goal scorers in the fourth were Uriel Zuart, Alexis Espinosa, José Antonio Medina, Jorge Luis Cortés and two goals by Ismael Rojo.
