November 22, 2023 – Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)St. Louis Ambush News Release

St. Charles, Missouri – The St. Louis Ambush kick off their 2023-24 Major Arena Soccer League season when they welcome the Milwaukee Wave to The Family Arena Friday at 5:05 p.m. CT.

Friday’s contest is the first of the season for each team and the first of six meetings between St. Louis and Milwaukee slated for the 2023-24 regular season. As they commence their eleventh season, the Ambush are looking to improve over last season in both their overall record and in their record against Friday’s opponent. The two team met six times last season, with the Wave prevailing five times. The Ambush finished the 2022-23 season in sixth place in the Eastern Conference. They did not qualify for the playoffs. The Wave finished last season in first place in the Eastern Conference. They defeated Utica City FC in the Conference Semi-Final round before losing to the Baltimore Blast in the Conference Final.

The Ambush start the season with an interesting mix of returning favorites, promising rookies, and off-season acquisitions via trade or free agency. Goalkeeper Paulo Nascimento, arguably among the best net minders in the league, is back. Will Eskay, the team’s leading scorer last season, also returns along with a host of both experienced veterans and rising stars. Two players from the team’s inaugural 2013-14 roster, Corey Adamson and Richard Schmermund, are also on this season’s roster.

The Milwaukee crew includes Ian Bennett, one of the most prolific offensive threats in the league. Bennett finished fourth in the MASL in points last season with 45, second in goals with 35, first in power play goals with eight and second in game winning goals with five. Milwaukee’s offense gained another weapon with the off-season acquisition of Ricardo Carvalho, who tallied 34 points (17 goals, 17 assists) last season for Florida.

Following the Black Friday home opener, the Ambush will take to the road when they visit their cross-state rivals, the Kansas City Comets, on Sunday, December 3 at 4:05 p.m. CT at the Cable Dahmer Arena in Independence. The next Ambush home game is slated for Saturday, December 9 when they host the Empire Strykers at 6:05 p.m. CT at The Family Arena.
