St. Olaf wins the 2023 NCAA DIII men's soccer championship

The 2023 DII men’s soccer title resides at St. Olaf College. The Oles won the national title on Sunday by defeating Amherst 2-1 in overtime.

It marks the first title in program history.

Luka Ohadike put Amherst on top early in the second half with an unassisted goal. But St Olaf tied the game just 13 minutes later when Hakeem Morgan found the back of the net thanks to an assist from Casey McCloskey.

McCloskey would hear his name called just a minute into the first overtime period when he scored on a pass from Shea Bechtel.

St. Olaf finishes the season with a 20-3-3 record and Amherst finishes 17-3-4.

The tournament began with a classic 64-team field, dedicating 41 slots to automatic qualifiers and the remaining 23 berths to at-large candidates chosen by the selection committee. Four semifinalists advanced to Kerr Stadium in Salem, Virginia, where Roanoke College will hosted the final two rounds of the tournament on Dec. 1 and Dec. 3.
