Five Spartan Soccer Players Earn Big Ten Postseason Honors

Stout First Team

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State men’s soccer had five players garner Big Ten Conference postseason accolades, as the All-Big Ten awards were announced Friday by the conference.
 

Sophomore midfielder Jonathan Stout, a native of Wyoming, Michigan, earned first-team All-Big Ten honors. Last season, he was named Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Year for his standout rookie campaign and was named to the All-Freshman Team. Stout is second on the team in scoring with five goals for 10 points, including one game-winning goal. He is the first player to earn first-team honors since Jack Beck and Farai Mutatu in 2021.

 

Sharp Spadafora Second

Sophomore forward Jake Spadafora, a native of Northville, Michigan, was named to the second team. Last season, he joined Stout on the All-Freshman Team. Spadafora has played in all 15 games this season, starting 13. He is tied for third on the team in scoring with three goals and one assist for seven points.

Jeremy Sharp, a sophomore defender who hails from Roseville, Michigan, earned his first All-Big Ten honor, capturing a spot on the second team. Sharp has been a key part of the Spartan backline that has allowed only 14 goals this season. The defender has played in all 15 games, starting 14. Sharp is tied for third in the Big Ten and is first on the team in assists with five.

 

Eby Freshman Team

Defender Will Eby was also named to the All-Freshman Team. He follows in the footsteps of Stout and Spadafora who were named to the team last season and Jack Zugay who earned a spot in 2020. Eby, a native of Northville, Michigan, is one of only four Spartans to have started all 15 games. He is second on the team in minutes played behind goalkeeper Zac Kelly with 1,331. He has also scored two goals for four points this season.

Penn State’s Peter Mangione was named Offensive Player of the Year, while Ohio State’s Laurence Wooten earned Midfielder of the Year honors for the second-straight season. Penn State’s Femi Awodesu was the Defender of the Year, while the Nittany Lions’ Kris Shakes was Goalkeeper of the Year. Penn State’s Jeff Cook captured Coach of the Year accolades.

 

Zugay Sportsmanship

The Big Ten also recognized nine Sportsmanship Award honorees. The student-athletes chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior….
