  • Mason Mount’s future at Stamford Bridge is uncertain with his deal up next year
  • Mauricio Pochettino is a big fan of Mount and wants the club to reopen talks
  • Despite the Argentine’s admiration, Mount is ‘no closer’ to signing a new deal

Mason Mount is reportedly no closer to signing a new Chelsea deal despite incoming manager Mauricio Pochettino seeing him as a key part of his rebuild at Stamford Bridge.

The England international is out of contract next summer and despite attempts throughout the season to get him to sign a new deal, those talks have made no progress.

Pochettino, who is expected to replace interim boss Frank Lampard at the end of the season, believes Mount can play a major part in his Chelsea revolution.

The Evening Standard though have reported that Mount is still no closer to extending his stay at Stamford Bridge, despite Pochettino’s admiration for the player.

It’s said that Pochettino will ask for the club to restart negotiations with Mount – who the Blues could be forced into a decision over during the upcoming transfer window.

The 24-year-old is seeking a deal that will bring him closer to Chelsea’s highest earners.

Chelsea could be forced into selling Mount this summer if they can’t reach a new deal, as they will not want to lose him on a free transfer.

If he does leave the club, the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United and Bayern Munich have all been linked with his services.

Pochettino is a big admirer of Mount’s ability on the ball and work-ethic and feels the Blues academy graduate would suit the style he wants to implement.

However, it remains to be seen whether Chelsea and Mount can find a contractual resolution in the coming weeks to ensure the midfielder stays at the club for the long-term.
