Newcastle have reportedly joined the race for Bayern Munich star Ryan Gravenberch, who’s been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League this summer.
Gravenberch, who moved to Bayern for £17m last summer having earned rave reviews for his displays for Ajax, has started just two Bundesliga games in his debut campaign.
And the lack of game time led Gravenberch admitting last month that he “really wants to play weekly again” and that his situation “has to change next season”.
“In the beginning, of course, I had to get used to it here, a new environment,” Gravenberch told VI.
“Everything is much faster, sometimes even training sessions felt like competitions.
“It’s a top European club, you can’t miss a thing, but I feel like that ‘getting used to it’ has been behind me for a while now.
“Training and playing at the top level for a year is beautiful and instructive. I say playing, but it’s mainly training.
“That has to change next season, then I really want to play weekly again. I haven’t spoken to the club management yet, so just wait and see what happens. But it’s clear that this role does not match my expectations.”
Interest was rife even before that statement, and has predictably ramped up since, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealing Liverpool are particularly keen.
He said: “Liverpool especially remain interested and had a direct conversation with his agent a few days ago, so they are waiting to see if the situation could change.”
Manchester United and Arsenal have also been linked, while Manchester City have been thrown into the mix in recent days.
But TuttoMercatoWeb (via Sport Witness) put Newcastle at the front of the queue with Liverpool.
It’s claimed both clubs have ‘already made proposals’ and are willing to ‘shell out €50m’ to land the midfielder this summer.
The report adds that United are also in the frame but are yet to make an offer.
Whether Gravenberch will actually leave the club depends on his meeting with Thomas Tuchel and the club hierarchy, which is yet to take place.
