DURHAM — Duke women’s soccer program will welcome another standout recruiting class to the mix in 2023 as head coach Robbie Church and his staff landed the No. 6 overall class. During the spring, GoDuke.com will be spotlighting each of the eight newcomers.
The seventh incoming freshman that will be spotlighted is Mia Minestrella, who is a 5-8 forward from Redondo Beach, Calif. She attends Redondo Union High School and plays for Beach FC club team. Minestrella is the No. 14 ranked player in the 2023 class by TopDrawerSoccer and has extensive experience playing with U.S. Women’s Soccer national teams.
GoDuke.com: Tell us about your soccer game and what you hope to bring to Duke?
Mia Minestrella: I am a relentless forward that likes to score goals; something I hope to bring to Duke is my relentless mentality.

MM: Meeting new people
GD: Who are your biggest inspirations on and off the pitch?
MM: Lu Barnes
GD: What is your proudest moment on the soccer field so far?
MM: Winning CIF with my high school team
GD: At what age did you start playing soccer?
MM: Four years old
GD: Did you play other sports growing up?
MM: Beach volleyball and basketball
GD: I know it is early, but do you have any idea yet what you think you might want to major in?
MM: Psychology
