Newcastle have reportedly ‘enquired’ about the possibility of signing Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries this summer, who is also on the radar of Manchester United.

The 27-year-old has shone in Serie A this season and has attracted the interest of several top clubs. Also, Inter could be forced to sell him due to their ongoing financial issues.

Kieran Trippier has been fantastic in the right-back role for Newcastle this term. But, if these reports are to be believed, it seems Eddie Howe could be looking for a long-term replacement.

This season, the defender has made 29 league appearances for Inter, scoring one goal and making six assists – exactly the same as Trippier’s return.

He also caught the eye playing for the Netherlands in the World Cup last year – where he helped the Oranges reach the quarter-finals.

However, as previously reported by Football365, Man Utd are also interested in Dumfries. Therefore, Newcastle could face competition for his signature.

Erik ten Hag has allegedly made signing a new right-back one of his top priorities, with the future of Aaron Wan-Bissaka currently in doubt.

The manager is thought to have a number of high-profile names on his transfer shortlist – but Dumfries is believed to be right at the top.

From Dumfries’ point of view, if given the choice between the two Premier League teams, it’s not an easy call.

Man Utd are, of course, the bigger club, and along with Newcastle will be in the Champions League next season (barring something ridiculous…
