HARRISON, NJ – Gotham FC will look to remain unbeaten in UKG NWSL Challenge Cup play when the club meets the North Carolina Courage at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. on Wednesday, May 3 (7 p.m. ET, Paramount+).

Gotham FC was among the only four teams to earn three points with a win in the opening match of 2023 UKG NWSL Challenge Cup, joining OL Reign, Kansas City Current, and San Diego Wave FC. In North Carolina’s first Challenge Cup game this season, the club played to a 1-1 draw against the Orlando Pride.

On April 22, in the first meeting of the 2023 NWSL regular season between the teams, Gotham FC defeated the Courage, 1-0, on a goal by Lynn Williams in the 80th minute after a two-hour weather delay at the half.

Following the match on Sunday, Gotham FC will host a media availability via Zoom, and will provide photos, videos and soundbytes

Gotham FC Victorious in UKG NWSL Challenge Cup Opener

On April 19, Gotham FC opened the UKG NWSL Challenge Cup campaign with a 1-0 win over the Washington Spirit at Red Bull Arena. Gotham FC and U.S. Women’s National Team forward Lynn Williams scored in the 56th minute, and goalkeeper Mandy Haught kept a clean sheet for all 90 minutes of her first appearance in 2023. Defender Ellie Jean was named the Gotham FC Player of the Match presented by CarMax. Midfielder McCall Zerboni led the team with five clearances and three interceptions.

Williams: Consistently Dominant in the Box

When Lynn Williams scored the game-winner against the NC Courage on April 22, it was her 42nd consecutive goal in all NWSL competitions from inside the box – not including penalties.

Million-Dollar Prize Pool for UKG Challenge Cup

UKG has doubled the prize pool for the 2023 UKG NWSL Challenge Cup, bringing the first-ever million-dollar prize pool to U.S. professional women’s soccer. In tandem with the tournament kickoff, UKG and the NWSL has launched a co-branded “Challenge Accepted” campaign which emphasizes the unwavering support for equity both on and off the field.
