Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp has been slammed by Richard Keys after he berated the match officials during his side’s 4-3 win over Tottenham.
The Reds won their fourth Premier League game in a row on Sunday afternoon. They surrendered their three-goal lead against Tottenham but Diogo Jota netted late on to earn Liverpool all three points.
Klopp was shown a yellow card for celebrating in front of fourth official John Brooks after Jota found the net.
The German thinks it was acceptable that he was carded, but he claimed post-match that referee Paul Tierney spoke to him in an unprofessional manner.
Klopp said: “We have our history with Tierney, I really don’t know what he has against us, he has said there is no problem but that cannot be true.
“How he looks at me, I don’t understand it. My celebration was unnecessary, which is fair but what he said to me when he gave me the yellow card is not OK.”
The PGMOL have since publicly defended Tierney and “strongly refuted” the claims from Klopp.
“Match officials in the Premier League are recorded in all games via a communications system and having fully reviewed the audio of referee Paul Tierney from today’s fixture, we can confirm he acted in a professional manner throughout including when issuing the caution to the Liverpool manager so, therefore, we strongly refute any suggestion that Tierney’s actions were improper.”

Keys thinks Klopp went too far with his actions on Sunday as the manager “lost the plot”.
“Once again he’s got a little bit carried away,” Keys said. “That’s what I would say. I like him, I’ve said that many times. He’s great to listen to, he goes out of his way to be helpful most of the time. He is box office, but there are occasions he goes beyond what is acceptable and he’s done that here.
“I’m not on that touchline and I’m not offering up an example to millions of youngsters. When a decision goes against you on the football pitch you walk up to the fourth official and scream in his face again and he’s got form for that. He loses the plot occasionally in the dugout and I don’t like to see it.
