SEASIDE, California – Monterey Bay F.C. (3-2-3, 12 points) shared the points with Rio Grande Valley FC (1-2-4, 7 points) following a scoreless draw at Cardinale Stadium, presented by 1st Capital Bank. Monterey Bay F.C. has now recorded consecutive clean sheets in all competitions and remains unbeaten since the first of the month, a six-match run.

Monterey Bay earned its first chance of the evening in the 14th minute of the match when Sam Gleadle and Alex Dixon teamed up on the counter. With numbers going forward, Dixon played a sprinting Morey Doner into the box on the right side, but his low shot was saved at the near post. The Toros first big chance of the match came in the 24th minute, but José Torres’ curling shot from the top of the box missed over the crossbar. The Union came close to the opener in the 33rd minute following another counter attack spearheaded by Dixon, Gleadle and Christian Volesky, but Volesky’s pass led Gleadle just a bit too far on the left side and the Rio Grande Valley defense recovered in time to clear it away. The sides went into the break scoreless at 0-0.

The Crisp and Kelp got started right away in the second half with a chance in the 47th minute, but Dixon’s shot from the right side of the 18-yard box was saved by the goalkeeper. Doner made a deep run down the right sideline in the 75th minute of the match to earn a corner, but the visitors knocked the corner away to deny the hosts the opening score. Doner looped another dangerous ball into the box in the 78th minute, but Dixon’s attempt to take it sideways off the volley was mishit and out for a throw- in. Dixon then whipped a ball of his own into the box four minutes later, but the ball bounced off the chest of Volesky in an attempt to bring it down and fell to the goalkeeper. Rio Grande Valley came close again with a counter in the 84th minute, but the shot by Frank Lopez missed wide to the right. On the final chance of the match, Monterey Bay crossed a ball into the box after winning a set piece opportunity deep in the visitors half. Volesky rose up to get his head on the perfectly whipped in ball, but his header missed just wide of the far post and the match ended 0-0.
