CHESTER, Pa. – Philadelphia Union II faced off against Atlanta United 2 at Fifth Third Bank Stadium on Sunday evening, falling 1-0. In the first half, Union II generated many attempts on goal, including an upper right corner freekick nearly scored by forward Jeremy Rafanello. In the 34th minute, a cross into the box was headed by forward José Riasco, and smashed in the air by midfielder CJ Olney, but the shot landed just left of goal. Just before half, Atlanta put one on the board after forward Nick Firmino caught the end of a ball over the top, passing it back to forward Karim Tmimi who put the home team up 1-0 in the 40th minute. In the second half, Union II nearly found the equalizer after a corner kick found defender Gino Portella on the front post, heading the ball wide of the net. In another attempt, forward Nelson Pierre chipped the ball to forward Stefan Stojanovic whose header forced Atlanta’s goalkeeper to clinch a diving save in the 85th minute. Despite outshooting Atlanta 11 to eight, Union II could not find the equalizer.
