Sheikh Jassim to ‘signal his intentions’ by making PSG star Man Utd’s ‘marquee summer signing’

PSG forward Neymar celebrates a goal with Kylian Mbappe

Manchester United will try to sign PSG superstar Neymar if they are taken over by Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al Thani, according to a report.

Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe are the current frontrunners to buy the Red Devils from the Glazers.

Both had initially set out plans to complete a full takeover, however, a part-takeover seems the most likely scenario at this moment in time with some of the Glazer family eager to stay.

The Glazers reportedly want at least £6billion for the Premier League club.

It is fair to say the club’s current owners are not well-liked and many United fans are anxiously waiting to see how the sale of the club develops.

The prospective purchase from Sheikh Jassim has been met with a mixed reception, however.

Obviously, Qatar has grown a negative reputation over the years having hosted the 2022 World Cup.

Maybe this is propaganda used to become the favoured party to take over, similar to a politician trying to win votes. Or maybe this is a signing the Qatari legitimately wants to make.

As mentioned prior, it should get fans on board as it will show a great amount of ambition, but Neymar is a player that comes with a serious amount of baggage.

Not only is he injury prone, but he earns a reported £616,000 per week and has come under scrutiny for his poor attitude and work ethic.

Obviously a world-class footballer who is arguably the third best of this generation behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, Neymar would make any team better, but is he worth the money and the baggage?

The Sun report states that Sheikh Jassim wants the PSG forward to be the club’s ‘marquee signing this summer’ – if his takeover bid is a success.

‘One of his first actions’ would be to sign Neymar – who would ‘signal the intentions of the new owners’.

It has been reported that PSG are willing to part ways with Neymar having bought him from Barcelona for a world-record £198million fee in the summer of 2017.
