Liverpool set to raid Man City for ‘main target’ as Klopp ‘prioritises’ summer deal for £35m flop

Liverpool plot move for Phillips

Liverpool are reportedly keen to sign Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City this summer and he is available for around £35m.

The Englishman was one of the players Man City signed during last summer’s transfer window. He earned himself this major move after shining for Leeds United and England.

Phillips joined a Man City team that is full of quality operators and he has been unable to make an impact this term. Rodri has been favoured by Pep Guardiola and the Englishman has often been left on the sidelines.

Back in December, Phillips was accused of being “unfit” by Guardiola and he has barely featured for Man City in recent months.

Liverpool are in the market for new midfielders and they were linked with Phillips prior to his move to Manchester City.

The Daily Star are claiming that Liverpool are ‘prioritising’ a move for Phillips this summer. He joined City for £42m plus add-ons last year but he is now said to be available for £35m. The report adds.

‘Liverpool want to sign Manchester City outcast Kalvin Phillips in a £35m deal this summer.

‘Jurgen Klopp has targeted the England international after being priced out of a move for Jude Bellingham.

‘Klopp is desperate to bolster his midfield options ahead of next season and has made Phillips one of his main targets.

‘It’s understood Liverpool have let it be known Phillips is on their radar – and the 27-year-old is open to a move to Anfield.’

Tony Cascarino has explained why Man City’s Phillips would be a brilliant signing for Liverpool.

“The most important thing is to sign two players who can play, but their main job is to win the ball back – a bit like the Jordan Henderson type,” Cascarino told talkSPORT.

“I like Kalvin Phillips. He’s not been used at Man City. OK, Rodri’s performances have been extraordinary, but I think Phillips is a fabulous ball-winner – we saw him enough at Leeds to know that.

“I think they’ve got to go back to their first port of call – make your team as hard to beat as they were before. They were brilliant in midfield with Henderson, Fabinho and…
