Liverpool ‘leading’ six-club chase for £70m star as player’s transfer stance makes Brighton ‘agitated’

Liverpool target Mac Allister

Liverpool are reportedly ‘leading the chase’ for Brighton star Alexis Mac Allister amid interest from the likes of Chelsea and Man Utd.

Brighton have acted superbly in the transfer market since their promotion at the end of the 2016/17 campaign.

Mac Allister has proven to be one of their best additions. He has been a superb asset for the Seagulls over the past three seasons.

His form for Brighton earned him a place in Argentina’s World Cup squad last year and he was one of the tournament’s top performers as they won the competition for a third time.

This has further fuelled talk linking him with a move away from Brighton. He has grabbed ten goals and two assists for the Premier League club this term and he is one of the midfielders Liverpool are interested in.

90min are reporting that Liverpool are ‘ready to bring in up to three midfielders this summer’ and they are leading the chase’ for Mac Allister.

The report claims Chelsea, Man City, Man Utd, Newcastle United and Tottenham have also shown ‘interest’ in the 24-year-old.

Brighton are said to be ‘agitated behind the scenes at his desire to move on’ but they are willing to let him leave this summer ‘under the right conditions’.

Mac Allister is under contract until 2025 and ‘a deal may need to be worth in excess of £70m to persuade Brighton to sell their World Cup winner’.

This fee will likely to ‘rule out a move away from the Premier League’. Mac Allister’s father thinks he will be playing for “another team” next season.

“The next phase of his career will pass and he will be playing within another institution, we don’t know which one as the talking are just beginning in general but most likely by next month,” he told Argentine outlet Ole. “From July he will be playing for another team.”

Mac Allister meanwhile insists he is “very happy” at Brighton but he will “sit down and talk” if “an offer arrives” this summer.

“The truth is that I am very happy at the club,” Mac Allister told ESPN. “I try not to think about the future.

“I know there’s a lot of talk and I think it’s normal after winning the World Cup. Already, in the January market, there was a lot of talk, but I’m very calm. I focus on playing, on training every day, on continuing to improve.

“Like I said, I have a lot of respect for Brighton. I respect this club a…
