Mauricio Pochettino’s ‘roadmap’ for two Chelsea stars is thought to have impressed the Blues bosses as the former Tottenham manager becomes hot favourite to take over at Stamford Bridge.

Pochettino was below both Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique in the running to become the next permanent Chelsea manager, but with that duo now out of contention, the Argentinian is now odds-on to be in charge at the start of next season.

He continued: ‘Pochettino views Mudryk as being similar to both Son and Lucas Moura and believes getting him higher up the pitch, moving the ball to him faster and encouraging him to keep driving at players will help unlock his potential.’

Poch’s thoughts on fitness, pre-season and the state of the current squad were also discussed in meetings with the Chelsea board.

He added: ‘Furthermore, Pochettino’s conversations have focused around fitness concerns, in particular a need for a settled squad in pre-season and a manageable schedule. He has made it…
