Tottenham-linked Kompany tipped to raid Chelsea for first signing as new Spurs manager

Tottenham-linked Kompany

Tottenham-linked Vincent Kompany has been tipped to raid Chelsea for his first signing if the Burnley boss is appointed as Antonio Conte’s successor.

The Man City legend has worked wonders at Turf Moor since he joined the Clarets last summer ahead of their return to the Championship. Burnley will be crowned champions if they beat QPR on Saturday afternoon.

Kompany’s work at Burnley has not gone unnoticed as he has been linked with Chelsea and Tottenham in recent days.

Last month, Kompany was labelled as the ‘shock leading contender’ to replace Conte at Spurs.

The 37-year-old will have a tough job on his hands if he takes over at Tottenham as they are enduring a difficult season. They exited each cup competition in disappointing fashion and they are now likely to miss out on the top four.

Now Belgian journalist Filip Joos has brought up the possibility of Spurs signing Romelu Lukaku this summer if Kompany takes over.

Conte was reportedly keen to sign the striker while he was at the club and he could be available for transfer this summer.

Joos thinks Juventus may be a potential destination for Lukaku if Conte returns to the Italian giants.

“It could well be the team [Juventus] where Conte becomes coach.” Joos told Belgian outlet Voetbal Primeur.

“Juventus is mentioned and if they get rid of [Dusan] Vlahovic, there will be enough money to get Lukaku.”

But the reporter also put forward a potential link-up between Lukaku and his compatriot Kompany at Spurs.

“It would mean that Kompany would have to let Harry Kane go to get Lukaku,” Joos added.

“Those are big shoes to fill. I might not dare to do it, but I also think it could work.”

“In my first interview this season I said that I would never talk about the future. I have nothing to gain from that. Suppose I answer ‘yes’ to the question of whether I stay and then something changes… then I am a liar,” Kompany told reporters.

“So, I don’t bother with those kinds of questions. This morning I just got back to the club early and tonight I’m going home late. I keep working hard to win games. That is the most respectful thing to the people of this club. Chelsea and Tottenham? Not involved at all.”

Speaking on life as a manager in the Championship with Burnley, he added: “Sometimes…
