Arsenal ‘prepare’ €120m ‘double whammy’ as Arteta makes fresh attempt to sign midfielder despite recent snub

Arsenal plan two signings

Arsenal are reportedly ‘preparing’ a double raid on La Liga outfit Real Sociedad ahead of next season’s return to the Champions League.

The Gunners have been enjoying a brilliant season under Mikel Arteta. They are currently four points clear of Man City at the top of the Premier League.

It would be remarkable if they edge out Man City to lift the title after they narrowly missed out on a place on the top four in 2021/22.

Even if Arsenal do finish second, it should still be considered a successful season as they will have qualified for next season’s Champions League.

Arsenal’s current squad is not as strong as Man City’s so it is important for the Londoners to strengthen during this summer’s transfer window.

They are already being linked with several players, with West Ham United standout Declan Rice among their preferred targets.

Spanish outlet Fichajes are now reporting that Arsenal are ‘preparing a €120m double whammy in Spain’.

The report claims Arteta’s side have ‘set their sights’ on Real Sociedad duo Robin Le Normand and Martin Zubimendi.

Le Normand was linked with Manchester United a couple of years ago but he is now ‘very popular with the capital team’.

A deal for the centre-back would be a difficult one to pull off as Arsenal have reportedly been told that he will only leave Real Sociedad this summer if his €6om release clause is met.

Arsenal also intend to ‘return to the fray’ for FC Barcelona target Zubimendi this summer. ‘An operation, estimated at €60 million, aims to be executed’.

The centre-midfielder was considered by the Gunners during the January transfer window but he rejected them. At the time, the player publicly revealed that he had no intention to leave Real Sociedad while the 2022/23 season was still ongoing.

“Rumours, rumours, because I told my agent that I didn’t want to hear anything, especially in winter,” Zubimendi told Spanish outlet Sport.

“Leaving Real Sociedad aside with the season we are having would be illogical. I am very happy here.”

When asked about his plans for this summer’s transfer window, he added: “I look forward to a quiet summer. Like the rest.”
