New contract for Haaland as Real Madrid seek to sweeten Bellingham deal

Ferdinand lauds Bellingham

The Gossip has the latest on Chelsea’s manager search, with potentially good news for Tottenham, and Real Madrid’s prospects of signing Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham…

CHELSEA PASS ON LUIS ENRIQUE
Chelsea don’t seem to be much closer to deciding upon who their next victim manager will be, but it seems they have decided to rule out one candidate…

The club currently being managed by Frank Lampard have decided that Luis Enrique isn’t the man for them. The Telegraph says that the former Spain and Barcelona coach flew to London for talks with Chelsea a fortnight ago but he has not made the shortlist. Sporting Lisbon Ruben Amorim is similarly now an outsider.

Chelsea’s decision to swerve Luis Enrique could play into Tottenham’s hands, while the Blues want to speak again with Julian Nagelsmann and Mauricio Pochettino. The Guardian reckons Nagelsmann is leading the race having been interviewed last week, while they report that Luis Enrique isn’t fancied because of ‘several demands’ he made during talks, ‘basic competency’ presumably being one of them.

Some of Chelsea’s players are facing up to the prospect of 30 per cent wage cuts while they next season when they won’t be competing in the Champions League, while others won’t be hanging around anyway. Bild suggests the Blues will offload one or both of Kepa and Edouard Mendy in order to sign Borussia Dortmund keeper Gregor Kobel.

NEW DEAL FOR HAALAND
Erling Haaland scored another last night – that’s a ridiculous 47 in 40 games for Manchester City this season – and should have had a brace in the draw with Bayern Munich that earned a 4-1 aggregate win and set up a semi-final against Real Madrid.

Haaland has been linked with Real ever since he signed for City last summer, with talk of a clause in his contract allowing him to leave next year if an offer worth around £150million has been met. The Athletic, however, says such a clause no longer exists as a consequence of Pep Guardiola extending his contract earlier this season.

So Haaland is set to renegotiate his terms with City and though he is currently happy at the Etihad, it is not clear what exit clauses might be involved.
