Chelsea make progress with Nagelsmann as Arsenal focus on strike duo

Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic and Everton centre-forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin remain targets for Arsenal.

Chelsea sat down with Julian Nagelsmann last week with seven still in contention for the manager’s job, while Arsenal remain focused on two long-term targets…

CHELSEA MEET NAGELSMANN AMID LUIS ENRIQUE DISAPPOINTMENT
Chelsea are taking their sweet time to appoint Graham Potter’s permanent successor. Which doesn’t seem likely to be Frank Lampard after the interim boss suffered his third consecutive defeat on Saturday while the Blues were shown up by Brighton.

The process took a step forward last Thursday when, according to The Times, Chelsea held a meeting with Julian Nagelsmann. The club’s co-sporting directors, Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, travelled to Germany to meet the axed Bayern Munich boss amid calls and meetings with up to six other coaches, including Mauricio Pochettino, Luciano Spalletti and Ruben Amorim.

Winstanley and Stewart have already met with Luis Enrique and AS says the former Spain boss was disappointed not to be appointed prior to last week’s Champions League defeat against Real Madrid. But the former Barca coach is said to be emerging as a favourite because he could help bring Gavi to Stamford Bridge. Which sounds like a very Chelsea reason to appoint a manager.

REAL EYE CHELSEA QUARTET BEFORE HAALAND SWOOP
Real Madrid will be at Stamford Bridge tomorrow and Florentino Perez is hoping to knock the Blues out of the Champions League before taking four of their players this summer.

Their interest in Reece James is well established, even if Perez might be p*ssing into the wind if he really hopes to land the England defender for £44million.

But Fichajes says Real want to take three others in addition to James, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Mason Mount and Mateo Kovacic also on their radar.

The same outlet suggests Perez is making plans for Erling Haaland that centre around a clause in his Manchester City contract that could make the ridiculous striker attainable in 2024.

ARSENAL SETTLE ON STRIKER TARGETS
Real are said to be among the clubs keen to sign Dusan Vlahovic and, apparently, Madrid is the Serbia star’s preferred option. But Arsenal’s interest in Vlahovic remains strong.

The 23-year-old swerved the Emirates last year when he moved to Juventus from Fiorentina but the Old Lady could be open to offers this summer.

Football Insider says Vlahovic is the Gunners preferred striker target before next season…
