‘The guy’s pure quality’ – Roy Keane lathers praise on strikers’ ‘dream’ Man Utd star

Former Manchester United player Roy Keane has lathered praise on star man Bruno Fernandes, who he feels is “pure quality” and a “dream” for a striker.

Fernandes has been one of United’s premier talents since he stepped foot through the door in January 2020. Despite only being at Old Trafford for half of his first season, he made an indelible mark.

Indeed, the Portuguese was directly involved in 15 goals in 14 Premier League games. The following season, he had one of the best single campaigns in Premier League history.

Fernandes scored 18 goals and provided 11 assists during the campaign. In all, the attacking-midfielder has been directly involved in 112 goals in 175 games for the Red Devils.

As such, there’s no secret that he’s not only one of the best talents in the United squad, but one of the best in the league. Still, it’s useful for United that he’s maintained his form throughout his time at the club.

That was no different as United headed to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest. While Fernandes did not directly impact the scoreline, his top performance was noted by former United man Keane.

“Brilliant, I really think he’s a brilliant player, he’ll be disappointed he didn’t obviously score, but his quality of his balls into the box – if you’re a striker it’s a dream, you make some runs and he picks you out,” he said on Sky Sports.

“Plenty of time today, he’s got a good relationship obviously with [Christian] Eriksen and all the guys around him. I just think he’s pure quality.”

Fernandes has been in line for criticism recently. The main occasion that has seen him called out for his behaviour of late was United’s 7-0 drubbing at the hands of Liverpool, in which he was clearly angry, seemingly due to not being subbed off.

At the time, Keane called his body language “disgraceful”.

The pundit alluded to the fact he’s hit out at Fernandes before, but noted he’s a different player when United are in form.

“I know we criticise him when United don’t win football matches. He’s two steps ahead in terms of his quality and the picture he has on the football pitch. I think the guy’s pure quality,” Keane added.

“He’ll be disappointed again he hasn’t scored but great day for him, very comfortable.”
