LEXINGTON, Ky. – Despite a strong second half, South Georgia Tormenta FC’s valiant efforts fell short after facing Lexington SC for the first time in club history in tonight’s 2-1 defeat. Jackson Khoury was the lone goal scorer for South Georgia and has now scored in two consecutive games.

Throughout the first half, South Georgia was not able to dominate possession, yet the team always appeared to be a threat, despite having few shots on target. The home team managed to score the only goal of the half following a rebound from a free kick, which was tapped in by Nico Brown.

After a slow first half, South Georgia came out much stronger in the second half, and only a minute into the half, the visitors had a goal disallowed as Kingsford Adjei was called for obstruction of the goalkeeper’s vision. Undeterred, South Georgia was rightfully awarded a penalty kick a couple of minutes later. Khoury’s shot was executed with precision, finding the top-right corner, leaving the home team’s goalkeeper with no chance.

As the visiting team continued to push forward, it looked increasingly dangerous, and in the 56th minute, a cross was delivered into the penalty box, but Khoruy’s header went just above the mark.

Lexington’s Owen Green was able to get the home team’s second goal of the match, scoring against his former team.

Tormenta FC will travel to Knoxville, Tennessee, to take on One Knoxville SC next Friday, April 21, at 7 p.m. ET. The following Tuesday, Tormenta FC will go on the road for its third consecutive road game to take on Major League Soccer’s Charlotte FC in the Third Round of the U.S. Open Cup.

South Georgia is poised to make a strong push for the championship title in the upcoming season. Fans can secure their seats at the new Tormenta Stadium ahead of 2023, with Season Tickets now available for purchase.
