Everton boss Sean Dyche revealed in a press conference on Thursday that he has spoken to Dele Alli after he returned early from his loan with Besiktas.
The Toffees manager said the 27-year-old will be out ‘for a number of weeks’ with an injury and wants to see him recover before assessing his future.
Alli was granted permission to travel back to England by Besiktas but officially, he will remain a player for the Turkish club until the end of the season.
The former England international was offloaded by Frank Lampard at the start of the season after falling down the pecking order.
The loan switch to Besiktas represented a chance for him to get his career back on track, but he has clearly failed to do so.
Overall, in 15 appearances for Senol Gunes’ side, the midfielder scored three goals and made zero assists.
However, after allegedly going AWOL from training in late March, Alli has failed to play a single game since the 26th of February.
Now, he is back in England, but seems unlikely to be playing for Everton again any time soon.
In a press conference on Thursday, Dyche said: “I just feel he needs to get his injury right and then we’ll take it from there.
“It’s not going to be just a week, it’s going to be a number of weeks.”
“He’s come back with an injury that’s going to take some time to get sorted. He’ll use that period wisely I hope.”
Alli was pictured on social media surrounded by what appeared to be gas canisters earlier this week, which prompted concerns over his wellbeing.
“He’s not here but has an injury which will keep him out for some time. That needs to be dealt with,” Dyche added.
“Some of the stuff that’s been said and reported… he’s 27 and like other players knows certain things and what they should or shouldn’t be doing.
“Forget about Everton for a minute, as a manager you can’t control everything they do in their lives.
“There seems to be this myth where they ask ‘what’s the manager doing? You go: ‘are you meant to be following them round every day of their lives?’
“You can only guide people with what you think is good for them and eventually they have choices. We recommend they make good choices.”
Alli will have one year remaining on his Everton contract at the end of the season, after joining the Merseyside club from Tottenham in January 2022.
