Nashville Soccer Club Travels to New York Looking for Season Sweep of New York City FC

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Nashville Soccer Club (3W-2L-2D, 11 pts.) will travel to Queens, NY to take on New York City FC (2W-2L-3D, 9 pts.) at 6:30 p.m. CT on Saturday at Citi Field. Nashville SC, who will wear its Man in Black kit for the fourth time this season, is 2W-0L-1D in its secondary kit.


Earlier today, Nashville SC Head Coach Gary Smith and winger Fafà Picault spoke with the media about the excellent week of training and preparation the club has had and the uniqueness of finishing the season series against New York City FC so early in the season. They also touched on the preparations of playing at a non-soccer venue and how it plays an impact on the match. Picault, a native of New York, also spoke about the excitement of playing in his birth city but emphasized the importance of staying focused on the match.

Nashville SC enters Matchday 8 in fifth place in the Eastern Conference, riding a two-match unbeaten streak following a scoreless draw at GEODIS Park against Toronto FC and a 2-0 road victory over Orlando City SC.

The Boys in Gold opened up their 2023 season with a 2-0 victory over New York City FC at GEODIS Park. Captain Walker Zimmerman scored the opening goal, while reigning MLS MVP Hany Mukhtar came off the bench to assist Jacob Shaffelburg on the insurance tally to secure the win.

Nashville SC is just one of seven teams in MLS history to have allowed only two goals in the first seven weeks of a season, which is currently the fewest goals any team has conceded. Joe Willis leads all MLS goalkeepers in save percentage at 92.3 % (minimum three matches played) and ranks tied for fourth in MLS with 21 saves. The NSC keeper has a goals against average of 0.29 this season en route to his five clean sheets.

A key to success for Nashville SC will be getting on the board first. The Boys in Gold have not lost in the last 31 matches when scoring the first goal of a match, a streak that dates back to August 2021. Nashville SC is 27W-1L-8D all-time when scoring two goals or more in an MLS match.

Following the match, the club will conduct its post-match media availability via Zoom. Footage will be distributed upon conclusion.
