STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC defender Davey Mason and midfielders Pedro Fonseca and Jackson Khoury were named to USL League One’s Team of the Week for Week 4 of the 2023 regular season. Fonseca was voted League One Player of the Week following an assist and a goal scored on Saturday night.
Fonseca was crucial to Tormenta FC’s Peach States Derby win on Saturday night. Fonseca was able to score his first goal of the season and assisted Khoury’s first professional goal. Fonseca finished the match with two chances created, a tackle and an interception.
“This win was important for us,” Fonseca said. “Now we go on the road and hope to keep this momentum. It was an honor to get my first goal and an assist tonight. Winning against Greenville is always nice, but winning at home against Greenville is special.”
Mason featured for the first time in League One’s Team of the Week. Mason continues to lock down the defensive line for South Georgia and create multiple chances in the offense. In Saturday’s game, Mason recorded two tackles, three clearances and an interception. Mason also created three scoring chances in Tormenta FC’s first home win of the season.
Khoury is also honored for the first time in League One’s Team of the Week. The 20-year-old finally obtained his first professional goal after superb performances in the first games of the season. The agile winger also recorded his first professional assist.
South Georgia is poised to make a strong push for the championship title in the upcoming season. Fans can secure their seats at the new Tormenta Stadium ahead of 2023, with Season Tickets now available for purchase.
Tormenta FC is set to go on the road after several home games to take on Lexington SC for the first time in club history this Saturday, April 15, at 7 p.m. ET from Toyota Stadium in Lexington, Kentucky.
