Chelsea set to sanction exit of £20million man who was forced to stay in January

Hakim Ziyech, Mateo Kovacic, Chelsea, September 2022

Hakim Ziyech could finally get his move away from Chelsea in the summer, as Paris Saint-Germain are coming back in and the Blues are reportedly ‘happy to let him leave’.

Ziyech’s time at Chelsea has not gone to plan. There was promise in his first season, where he was directly involved in five goals in 23 Premier League games, as well as three in six FA Cup games.

His best tally actually came last season, when he scored four goals and provided three assists in the league. However, that was from just 23 games.

That’s the most games he’s played in the league in any season, alongside his first campaign. This term, his game time has been lacking, having played just 13 games in the league.

What’s more, only six of those have come from the start. That’s largely a result of the Blues’ massive influx of players over the last couple of transfer windows.

Indeed, 16 players have headed into Stamford Bridge in those two windows, and a lot have been attackers.

Ziyech almost made his escape from the club in January. Indeed, PSG came calling and it seemed everything was in order for the forward to make the move to the Ligue 1 side.

However, reports suggested Chelsea hadn’t sent the correct paperwork in time, leaving PSG fuming. As such, Ziyech has continued to ply his trade for the London club, but has only featured in three league games since the January window closed.

It seems PSG are ready to negotiate with the Blues once again. Indeed, Football Insider reports they’re ‘set to rekindle their interest’ in Ziyech.

While the report states they ‘need to balance their books’ it seems they’re once again ready to go in for Ziyech and are ‘preparing a bid’.

That Chelsea’s squad is so big means they’ll likely be happy with just getting something in return for the forward.

The report suggests they’re ‘happy to let him leave if a club meets their £20-30million valuation’. That sort of cheap deal should be one that PSG can sanction despite the need to sort out finances.

As such, Ziyech might finally be able to leave Chelsea, after a dramatic January, coupled with a tough season.

Clearly a quality player on his day, a move to new surroundings could allow him to flourish. That PSG have been in for him on multiple occasions now will show him that he is wanted and that could help him to thrive.
