Arsenal ‘back away’ from summer transfer after Newcastle, Barcelona target makes ‘huge demands’

Arsenal target Tielemans

Arsenal have reportedly ‘backed away’ from talks with Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans as the midfielder has made ‘huge demands’.

The Gunners have been consistently linked with Tielemans over the past year. He was valued at around £30m last summer as he entered the final year of his contract at Leicester City.

The Belgium international has been a standout performer for the Foxes over the past few seasons and he scored the winning goal in the FA Cup final in 2021.

Despite this, Tielemans has remained at Leicester this season as no one was willing to meet the Premier League club’s asking price for the midfielder.

‘Unless the player significantly changes his stance, there is the strong possibility he will end up leaving England. Clubs from Spain and Italy are monitoring his situation.’

Arsenal are also looking at other midfielders. It is being widely reported that West Ham United’s Declan Rice is their main target in that area.

Everton star Amadou Onana has been mentioned as an alternative target in recent weeks. Arsenal’s chances of signing him will increase if Sean Dyche’s side are relegation.

Football Insider have revealed that Everton’s current asking price for Onana is £70m but this fee will be ‘slashed to £40-50m’ if they go down.

‘Amadou Onana, Jordan Pickford, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Ben Godfrey will all leave Goodison Park in the event of relegation, with all four players among the highest earners at the club.

‘Everton have put a £70million asking price on Onana, who I understand has no relegation clause in his contract.

‘That fee will be slashed to around £40-50million if relegated, but Chelsea and Arsenal are showing interest in the Belgium international…
