COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina men’s soccer signee Luke Brennan has decided to forgo his college eligibility, signing a homegrown player deal with Atlanta United.
“While we are disappointed not to be having Luke be part of our team here at South Carolina, we are very happy for him and his family and wish him the best of luck in his professional career,” South Carolina head coach Tony Annan said. “When you recruit players of his caliber, you always have to understand there is a chance this will happen.”
Brennan signed his National Letter of Intent with the Gamecocks on November 23 after playing for Atlanta United 2 in the USL. He tallied two goals and two assists over 27 matches with Atlanta’s second team. He became the youngest player to score for the club. At the end of July, he earned a call up to the U.S. Under-19 Men’s Youth National Team for training camp. He played with Atlanta’s U-17 group during last year’s Generation adidas Cup, reaching the knockout stage.

”Luke has continued to progress through the ranks over the past few seasons,” Atlanta VP and technical director Carlos Bocanegra said in their announcement. “He’s a talented player that can play off either wing. He got some experience with our first team during preseason, and we are looking forward to seeing him continue to develop with our MLS NEXT Pro team this season.”
He will spend the 2023 season on an MLS NEXT Pro deal, competing with ATL UTD 2 before being added to the first-team roster.
