Redknapp mentions Leicester as he claims Arsenal title win would be ‘one of the great PL achievements’

Arsenal midfielder Martin Odegaard celebrates scoring a goal

Jamie Redknapp thinks it would be “one of the great Premier League achievements” if Arsenal could win the title this season.

The Gunners put themselves back in a brilliant position with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday afternoon.

After Manchester City narrowly beat Crystal Palace 1-0 on Saturday, Mikel Arteta needed a big response from his Arsenal players and they duly delivered with goals from Gabriel Magalhaes, Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard.

Arsenal restored their five-point cushion over Pep Guardiola’s men and the Gunners are now in a fantastic position to go on and win the title for the first time in 20 years.

Speaking about their achievements so far this season, Redknapp said on Sky Sports: “Leicester was probably the most amazing Premier League title win ever and I don’t think it will ever be beaten. But from where Arsenal were, if they were to win the title it would go down as one of the great Premier League achievements.

“It’s so big how he’s turned it around and done it so quickly. I’m talking about power of the people and I think when you’ve got that belief at the Emirates, there’s such a positivity about the place. They believe in this team, they believe in the manager, and that helps so much.

“Even if they make a mistake they’re still with the team, and the fact they scored a last minute winner (last week against Bournemouth). This is going to go right down to the last game possibly. They’ve got good fixtures coming up at the end of the season, who knows? I think that Man City away game is going to be so key.”

Redknapp added: “This is a different Arsenal. They’re going to have problems and challenges but this team right now mentally is so strong. I’m not saying they’re going to win the league because it can go either way right now and we can all have our opinions, but whatever happens this Arsenal team deserves so much credit.

“They’ve been magnificent, the way they’ve played, the style of football, they’re the most enjoyable team to watch by far. Man City have done it in bits and pieces.

“The job Mikel Arteta has done after picking his team up from last year when they must have been on the floor. I remember when they lost to Tottenham 3-0. I wondered where he was going to go. The way he’s picked them up, they’re blowing teams away.”
