Atlético Ottawa Signs Samuel Salter from Halifax Wanderers in Landmark CPL Transfer

Ottawa, ON – Atlético Ottawa is pleased to announce the signing of Canadian forward Samuel Salter from Halifax Wanderers, on a two-year deal with an option to extend into 2025. Salter has been signed for an undisclosed fee in what is a landmark moment for the Canadian Premier League, with two sides from the league trading a player for a fee.

The 22-year-old has been a mainstay in the CPL since 2021 when he joined Halifax Wanderers. In his time in the CPL, Salter has played 48 times, scoring 14 goals (11 goals scored in the 2022 season) and providing one assist, as well as making three appearances in the Canadian Championship, scoring one goal.

“We’re delighted to have Samuel join our team,” said Carlos González, Head Coach, Atlético Ottawa. “He’s a versatile forward who has a fantastic work ethic and goal-scoring instinct, added to his extensive experience in the Canadian Premier League with a lot of potential to still grow. Prior to joining the Canadian Premier League, Salter came through the CF Montreal Academy before heading overseas to play for ASPTT Dijon U-19 (France) team as well as trialling with Ligue 1 side Lens’ U-19 team (France). He then played NCAA Division I soccer for California State University before joining the PLSQ side AS Blainville in 2020 where he was the league’s top scorer before the season was cut short by the pandemic.
