Simmonds Headed To Cup Of Nations With Jamaican National Team

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Freshman forward Kameron Simmonds is joining the senior Jamaican Women’s National Team ahead of the Cup of Nations Tournament that runs Feb. 16-22 in Australia.

The four-team tournament will feature three FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 qualifiers in Australia, Spain and Jamaica, as well as Czechia.

The six-match tournament will kick-off at Industree Group Stadium in Gosford on Feb. 16 with Spain playing Jamaica followed by Australia vs. Czechia. The Reggae Girlz then travel to Parramatta where they’ll face Czechia in CommBank Stadium on Feb. 19 before rounding out the tournament against host-team Australia in McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle on Feb. 22.

The highest-placed nation following the completion of all three match days will be crowned the Cup of Nations champion.

Simmonds joins Jamaica’s 24-player roster having previously attended camp with the senior team in January of 2023 and September of 2022. She has also been active with the U-20 and U-17 squads, scoring her first international goal last year at the CONCACAF U-20 Championship.

As a freshman at Tennessee, Simmonds played in 16 matches, finishing the season with four goals, including the game-winner in a crucial 1-0 victory on the road at Auburn. She took 23 shots during her rookie campaign, 13 of which were on frame for a shot-on-goal percentage of .565.
