Wolves midfielder Mario Lemina was sent off at Southampton for ‘RUNNING AGGRESSIVELY towards referee Jarred Gillett’ in another bizarre decision by a Premier League official… but his side still managed to win at St Mary’s!

Mario Lemina was sent off against Southampton for ‘running aggressively at the referee’, according to a report.

The midfielder was shown a second yellow on 27 minutes for reasons initially unclear, but, according to the Athletic, the card was shown by referee Jarred Gillett for the bizarre reason.

Wolves players fiercely protested the decision, but the call stood and Julen Lopetegui’s side had to play over two thirds of the game with 10 men.

The sending off didn’t impact them too much however, with the visitors coming from 1-0 down to secure a 2-1 win as they continue their revival under their new manager.

Southampton, meanwhile, remain bottom of the Premier League as pressure continues to mount on Nathan Jones.

Lemina was shown a first yellow relatively early on against his former side for a foul on Carlos Alcaraz, a decision questioned on its own.

As the debate continued, a second yellow was shown to the surprise of most in the stadium, with no foul initially clear.

Wolves were already 1-0 down at the time, a goal questionable in its own right with Alcaraz appearing to foul Lemina in the build-up.

Jarred Gillett struggled for control in the game and the protests were led by captain Ruben Neves as half time with Wolves fans frustrated at the interval.

They did however manage to turn the game around in the second half despite the numbers deficit, with a Jan Bednarek own goal pulling the visitors level before Joao Gomes came off the bench to score the winner late on.

The suspension cannot be appealed as it was not a straight red card offence.
