Gary Neville insists it’s “not ridiculous to say” that Man Utd “could win” the Premier League title after Arsenal and Man City both lost over the weekend.
The Red Devils beat Crystal Palace 2-1 on Saturday to close the gap on second-placed City to three points with Pep Guardiola’s side losing 1-0 to Tottenham the following day.
And Man Utd also gained three points on Premier League leaders Arsenal, who lost to Everton in Sean Dyche’s first match in charge of the Toffees, and they are now eight points adrift of the Gunners.
Erik ten Hag has done a brilliant job to change fortunes at Old Trafford with the Man Utd players showing a lot more consistency under the Dutchman.
And now Neville thinks Man Utd are in a “good position” to win the Premier League but reckons they “will fall short” at the end of the season.
“Are we in with a chance again?” Neville said on his Sky Sports podcast. “Look, I don’t think Manchester United will get there, I think they will fall short.
“They’re just not quite there and the Christian Eriksen injury will hurt, but they’re doing really, really well and they’re competing again.
“They look happy too and that’s a really big thing. You need that. From that point of view United are doing well.
“It’s not ridiculous to say they could win the title. I don’t think they will and I’ve never thought they will this season because it’s a bit early for that but I would be getting worried if I was Manchester City.
“The fans will start getting worried now with the way they’re playing and the way Pep Guardiola is tinkering with the team. United look a happy bunch, City look a bit moody and need to come out of that spell.
“Man City could easily still win the league but Man United are in a good position too.”
Man Utd had to play 20 minutes with ten men against Crystal Palace after Casemiro was sent off for grabbing Will Hughes around the throat.
And Red Devils goalkeeper David de Gea admits the Brazilian will be a big loss over the next three matches after losing Christian Eriksen for a few months with injury,
“It’s going to be tough for sure,” De Gea said. “We lost already Christian (Eriksen to injury), now Case, so big players for us.
“But we have a bigger squad. Players are ready to play, everyone is really focused.
