Charges Dropped Against Man Utd's Mason Greenwood

Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood has had charges of attempted rape and assault dropped against him.

Greenwood had been arrested in January last year after allegations surfaced with images and videos shared publicly.

The 21-year-old was charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The Crown Prosecution Service revealed that the charges had been dropped with key witnesses having withdrawn their involvement.

“I am relieved that this matter is now over and I would like to thank my family, loved ones and friends for their support,” Greenwood said in a statement on his behalf. “There will be no further comment at this time.”

Greenwood had been suspended immediately by United once the allegations were made public in January last year, although the club are yet to confirm if he will be available to return to training and playing.

“The club will now conduct its own process before determining next steps,” United said.

“We will not make any further comment until that process is complete.”

Bradford-born Greenwood has played 129 times for United, scoring 35 goals. He has one England cap to his name from 2020.
