Chelsea boss Graham Potter has confirmed that new £107million signing Enzo Fernandez may have to wait to make his debut ahead of their clash with Fulham tomorrow evening.

The Argentine World Cup winner signed for the Blues on transfer deadline day for a British record £107m move from Benfica.

Fernandez’s stunning move had been agreed in the last minutes of the transfer window as both clubs spent Tuesday locked in talks to try and get the move wrapped up.

Former Brighton boss Potter revealed in his pre-match press conference that Fernandez international clearance is yet to go through, therefore he may be forced to miss out on their clash with west London rivals Fulham in the Premier League. 

‘We’ll see, got to do paper work. He’s got to make sure he gets the clearance and all that, but yeah I’ve spoken to him.’

‘My Spanish isn’t great so we needed a translator, again we’ll get there, but impressive young man and looking forward to working with him.’

Fernandez’s addition wrapped up an extremely business January transfer window for Chelsea, having signed the likes of Joao Felix, Benoit Badiashile, Mykhailo Mudryk, David Datro Fofana, Andrey Santos, Noni Madueke and Malo Gusto for a record January outlay of £323m.

Potter, however, jokingly admitted it was a ‘calm’ deadline day for him – despite the club being in manic talks to complete the Fernandez deal. 

‘Calm! I am the head coach so I don’t get too involved with deadline day. I was preparing for Fulham.’

Potter added: ‘I’ve been involved too long to know that you can’t control everything – and from my perspective I couldn’t do anything to change things.
