Atlético Ottawa Sign Internationally Capped Canadian Karl Ouimette

Atlético Ottawa has today announced the signing of internationally capped Canadian defender Karl Ouimette on a two-year contract.

Ouimette (30) began his career with CF Montreal (formerly-Montreal Impact), graduating from the club’s academy before joining New York Red Bulls on a permanent deal in 2015 where he was reunited with current Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch.

The Terrebonne, Que.-born defender featured 38 times in Major League Soccer (MLS) before enjoying successful periods in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) and the United Soccer League (USL) – scoring seven goals and providing two assists in 128 USL games, including a winning goal in a playoff match against New York RedBulls II in 2019.

Ouimette featured 18 times for the Canadian Men’s National Team between 2013 and 2016 and provided the assist for Cyle Larin’s (current CanMNT all-time top scorer) first international goal.

“Karl is a player that has been on our radar for a few months now as we knew there would be a chance to sign him during the off-season,” said Carlos González, Head Coach, Atlético Ottawa. “He is a very versatile defender who can adapt to multiple positions, including holding midfielder. He is a great addition to the squad as he provides solidity in defence as well as leadership qualities on and off the pitch.”
