Manchester United are signing Cardiff City’s teenage striker Gabriele Biancheri on a scholar deal after he had medical at the weekend.

The youngster will sign a professional contract at Old Trafford in September when he turns 17.

The striker was wanted by Chelsea last summer and has scored 17 goals and five assists in all age-grade football this season.

Biancheri, who made his U18s debut for the Bluebirds in an FA Youth Cup fixture earlier campaign, has already climbed through the youth ranks at Cardiff,  training as a part of the U21 squad on occasions as well.

Although he is eligible to play for Italy, the youth star represents Wales at youth level, chalking up three international caps for the U17s so far.

Due to Brexit rules, United can only sign players aged 18 or under with UK citizenship – and have thus snapped up the Welsh youngster.

United meanwhile are set to send out a couple of youngsters on loan.

Striker Charlie McNeill is in talks to join League Two side Newport County on loan.

The 19-year-old isn’t the only United youngster who could be set to get first-team football elsewhere, as centre-back Di’Shon Bernard is discussing a move to League One side Portsmouth

It comes as Erik ten Hag continues to strengthen up front as he looks to fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo, who departed in controversial circumstances last year.

United have already brought in Wout Weghorst as a temporary option on a six-month loan deal from Burnley, and the 30-year-old has looked a shrewd addition so far.

He scored his first goal for the club in United’s 3-0 Carabao Cup victory over Nottingham Forest on Wednesday, as they continue to challenge in four competitions.
