Leeds CONFIRM the signing of USA international Weston McKennie

Leeds United have beaten off late competition to agree a deal for Juventus's Weston McKennie

Leeds CONFIRM the signing of USA international Weston McKennie after beating off late interest from Fulham and Nottingham Forest… with the midfielder joining on loan with a £30m option to buy

Leeds United have confirmed the loan signing of Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie – and he was greeted by his USA teammate Tyler Adams moments after putting pen to paper.

The United States international will join Leeds until the end of the season after the club beat off competition from Nottingham Forest and Fulham.

Leeds struck an agreement for a loan with an option to pay £30m for McKennie, 24, earlier this week. He will take the No 28 shirt.

Leeds midfielder Adams – the USA captain – was filmed arriving to welcome McKennie while he was giving his first interview as a Leeds player and the duo posed together with McKennie’s new shirt.

The deal, which includes a €1.5m (£1.3m) loan fee, is another huge statement of intent from Leeds to support American manager Jesse Marsch after signing Georginio Rutter earlier in the window for £35.5m from Hoffenheim.

Juventus made McKennie available to loan with an option to buy earlier this month, prompting interest from Leeds.

Sportsmail previously reported how the USA international has always wanted to play in the Premier League and sees Leeds as a very interesting opportunity to live that dream.

He has played a total of 70 games for Juventus, scoring nine goals, after joining from German side Schalke in 2020.

McKennie played alongside Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus when he first joined – with the Portugal star affectionately calling him ‘Texas Boy’.
