Arsenal have reportedly ‘submitted a second offer’ for Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo after having a bid rejected earlier this week.
The Ecuador international has been the subject of interest from Premier League clubs following his great form at the World Cup and for Brighton.
The Seagulls often hold firm when rival clubs show interest in their players and this leads to them earning major profits with player sales. They are mounting a push for a European place and they are under no pressure to sell Caicedo as he is under contract until 2025.
Chelsea had a £55m bid rejected earlier this month and Arsenal have joined the race to sign him. The Premier League club failed with a £60m offer a couple of days ago.
This prompted Caicedo to take to Instagram to issue a clear come-and-get-me plea to Arsenal.
“I am grateful to Mr. [Tony] Bloom and Brighton for giving me the chance to come to the Premier League and I feel I have always done my best for them,” Caicedo wrote on Instagram.
“I always play football with a smile and with heart.
“I am the youngest of 10 siblings from a poor upbringing in Santa Domingo in Ecuador. My dream always to be the most decorated player in the history of Ecuador.
“I am proud to be able to bring in a record transfer fee for Brighton which would allow them to reinvest it and help the club continue to be successful.
“The fans have taken me into their hearts and they will always be in my heart so I hope they can understand why I want to take up this magnificent opportunity.”
The Daily Mail are reporting that Arsenal have now ‘submitted a second offer’. This bid is worth an initial £60m plus an additional £10m in add-ons.
The report suggests that Brighton are ‘set to reject’ this proposal as they are ‘demanding £80m for their star player’.
Speaking during his press conference earlier this week, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta admitted that they “need some more cover in midfield”.
“Well, we need some more cover in midfield ideally if we can but obviously, in this market, it’s very complicated to do that.
“But as I always say the most important thing is that we get the performances and the time on the pitch that we need with the players we have available today that are already really good.”
