Patrick Vieira believes the spending of some of the division’s wealthiest clubs is good for the Premier League but makes life harder for the rest when they try to buy players from abroad.

Vieira, who ruled out a fresh move for Chelsea‘s Conor Gallagher, says the transfer activity of a few Premier League clubs drives up prices and gives foreign sides a false impression of what others are capable of.

Palace were edged out by Chelsea on Sunday, the same day the West Londoners confirmed the £88m capture of Mykhailo Mudryk, a deal that took their spree beyond the £400m mark since the summer.

Vieira said: ‘What happened with the spending of those teams is good for the football club and is good for the Premier League so we just have to compete when we are on the field with the quality we have, the ambition we have, the values we have and we will compete and that is what is important for us as a football club.

‘Of course it is not going to make it easy because when the Premier League team goes abroad to try to bring that player, it becomes really difficult because the other [selling] team will think we have the same spending as the other team. Of course it makes it more difficult.
