Chelsea Fan View: Graham Potter is serving up ghastly football that lacks character

It's time for Chelsea manager Graham Potter to show fans he's the right man to lead the club

FAN VIEW: Graham Potter should have shown signs that he’s the right man for Chelsea by now… but instead his team is serving up ghastly football that lacks heart, ambition and, most of all, character

  • Nobody knows if Graham Potter is the right man to lead the rebuild at Chelsea
  • The ex-Brighton boss is four months in but hasn’t shown he’s the right man yet
  • His team is serving up ghastly football that lacks heart, ambition and character
  • It’s time for Potter to show us a sign of progresss when we face Crystal Palace

It’s time to show us a sign, Graham. We play Crystal Palace on Sunday. And what we could really do with is a crystal ball.

Because nobody knows for sure if Chelsea have done the right thing in moving away from an approach that shouldn’t have worked, but illogically and superbly did for nearly 20 trophy-strewn years.

And nobody knows for sure if Graham Potter is the right man to execute a long-term rebuilding project that carries Chelsea back to the peak of the game.

Four months into his tenure, the Blues are out of form and lie 10th in the Premier League table

There is no unified opinion among Chelsea fans on Potter. Some will tell you he is out of his depth and will never be able to inspire this squad to greatness.

Others insist we have to give him all the time he needs, that it will come right in the end, that it might take a couple of years to see the fruits of his labour. Look at Arsenal and Newcastle, they say.

Twelve months ago there were plenty of Gunners saying Mikel Arteta should be fired.

Many Toon fans doubted that Eddie Howe could exploit their club’s new riches to the max. Now look at where they are and how their teams are playing.

However, even in a long-term project, there should be early signs that things are changing and moving in the right direction.
