Man Utd legend ‘mystified’ by transfer decision; bemoans ‘disrespectful’ link to ‘struggling’ Liverpool man

Man Utd legend mystified by snub

Man Utd legend Andy Cole is unimpressed that he has been compared to Darwin Nunez and he cannot believe Cody Gakpo joined Liverpool over his former club.

Nunez signed for Liverpool in the summer for a fee that could potentially rise to around £85m with add-ons.

The inexperienced striker has proven to be a bit of an enigma this season but he has grabbed ten goals and three assists in 23 outings.

The Uraguay international could have easily scored double that amount this season as he has been really wasteful with some of his opportunities for Liverpool.

Last month, Cole was left fuming when he was compared to Nunez.

They decided against making a move for him though with them short on funds after spending over £200m on signings in the summer.

This left Gakpo free for Liverpool and they have signed him for an initial fee of around £36m.

Cole has admitted that he has been left “mystified” by Gakpo’s move to Liverpool.

“Wow, I’m really not sure what happened there,” Cole added.

“All reports before and during the World Cup said the same thing, that he was headed for Manchester United. What happened after that? I’m as mystified as everybody else.”

Man Utd are instead set to sign Wout Weghorst as a short-term fix following Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit.

Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag will certainly hope that Jadon Sancho can return and make a difference before the end of the season.

The Englishman has not featured for United in recent months as he has suffered a drop off in “fitness and mood”.

Cole has empathised with Sancho and wants “five minutes with…
