Mudryk told to join Chelsea over Arsenal as Todd Boehly can sell ‘better project’

Newcastle target Mudryk

Stan Collymore has explained why Mykhaylo Mudryk should sign for Chelsea over Arsenal.

The London duo have been fighting it out to sign the Ukraine international, who has impressed through his Champions League performances this season.

Both Arsenal and Chelsea have held talks with Mudryk’s representatives but Shakhtar are so far refusing to budge on their £85m valuation.

Mudryk’s preference is to join the Gunners, but despite Mikel Arteta’s side being the runaway Premier League leaders, Collymore believes Chelsea owner Todd Boehly can sell a “better project” and the chance to “consistently compete for silverware.

Collymore told CaughtOffside: “I know some fans will argue that considering where both clubs are at the minute, if he were to choose the Blues over the Gunners, it’ll only be for the money.

“And that may well be true, but for me, Chelsea is still the more attractive project. If [Todd] Boehly can sell Chelsea’s future to Mudryk then that’s the more alluring option.

“If I had the choice, I’d choose Chelsea over Arsenal and that’s not me dismissing the good work Mikel Arteta and Arsenal are doing, but I just think over a three or four-year period, the Blues are the better project and the club more likely to consistently compete for silverware.

“So all that being considered, I wouldn’t be surprised if Mudryk ended up at Stamford Bridge.”

TEAMtalk reported on Sunday that Arsenal are ‘unhappy’ with Shakhtar as they believe the Ukrainian club have used Chelsea to try and push up the price, despite Mudryk making it clear he wants to move to the Gunners.

Football.London say there is an ‘announcement imminent’ from Shakhtar with a ‘fresh development’ expected by Arsenal in the ‘next few hours’.

The report adds: ‘A clear indication over Mudryk’s’ future could come shortly as Shakthar’s training camp in Turkey begins on Monday January 9. Of course, it should be pointed out that the winger is expected to be part of the squad, as revealed by the club’s deputy sporting director Carlo Nicolini.’
