Chelsea ‘bemused’ by £33m flop and Boehly plots quick sale; £87m transfer ‘not totally gone away’

Chelsea star Koulibaly

Chelsea have reportedly been ‘bemused’ by Kalidou Koulibaly this season and the Premier League club are ready to sell him as early as next summer.

Koulibaly has consistently been linked with the Premier League during his career and he finally moved to England in the summer.

Chelsea signed him from Serie A outfit Napoli for around £33m. He was one of their marquee additions in defence after Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen left the club.

Senegal international Koulibaly was regularly considered to be one of the best defenders in Italy during his time at Napoli but he has struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League.

The centre-back has been one of their most disappointing players this term as the pressure is starting to mount on Graham Potter.

“At Napoli he commanded, he came forward, he made long passes, now he has the ball between his feet, he does not know who to pass it to and he always plays passes to someone only a few metres away.

“Actually, he is surprising me. I thought he had a great personality, and for Chelsea, he would be really important and explode straight away. And yet, at this moment, this is not him.”

Now GiveMeSport are suggesting that Chelsea have been ‘bemused’ by Koulibaly’s poor form.

They even state that he ‘might yet leave’ later this year as their pursuit of Josko Gvardiol is not yet off the table.

‘There are figures around Chelsea bemused by his levels since arriving in a £33m deal, and while the club do not doubt Koulibaly’s qualities, there is reason to start to believe this move might not work out long-term,’ the report claims.

‘There are intermediaries that have been checking on his potential availability and that might become interesting.

‘Most of the narrative around Koulibaly and his future is being driven from Italy but recent checks with contacts suggest there is reason to believe he might yet leave in the summer.

‘Chelsea have been busy recruiting in the defence but might not be finished yet. Their…
