Liverpool target ‘tells friends’ he’d ‘jump at chance’ to snub Chelsea to seal £45m summer transfer

Liverpool target Moises Caicedo has reportedly ‘told friends’ that he would ‘jump at the chance’ to sign for Jurgen Klopp’s side from Brighton.

The 21-year-old has quickly made an impact for the Seagulls since joining them in 2021 from Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle.

Brighton have a superb track record in the transfer market and they are recognised as one of the best clubs in England when it comes to nurturing young talent.

The Premier League side regularly reap the rewards of this when it comes to player sales and Caicedo looks likely to be the next player they make big money on.

He boosted his reputation with his performances for Ecuador at the World Cup and the defensive midfielder has been vital as Brighton have risen up to eighth in the table.

Liverpool are naturally being linked with him as it is known that they are in the market for at least one new midfielder.

Klopp’s side have signed Cody Gakpo this month from PSV Eindhoven and they are now expected to turn their attention to strengthening in midfield.

Jude Bellingham is known to be their main target and it was claimed on Friday that they have a “good chance” of signing him ahead of Man City and Real Madrid.

It is expected that the Englishman would cost around £130m, so Liverpool will likely look at a cheaper option for their second midfield addition.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Liverpool are the ‘great favourites’ in the race to sign Caicedo.

Now Football Insider are reporting that Caicedo has ‘told friends that he would jump at the chance to join Liverpool’.

Brighton ‘have no plans’ to sell him this month but it is stated that he is ‘valued around the £45m mark’.

Caicedo’s long-term future is ‘in doubt’ as he is set to change his agent in preparation of a ‘big-money transfer’.

He has ‘let it be known to people close to him’ that he is ‘definitely interested’ in joining Liverpool.

Caicedo is understood to be one player Chelsea have ‘interest’ in either this month or in the summer.

A move for Caicedo may be higher up on the agenda now that talks with Benfica about signing Enzo Fernandez have broken down.

Benfica boss Roger Schmidt has hit out at Chelsea over their “disrepectful” pursuit of Fernandez.

“They tried to get the player on their side and they know they only can get this player when they pay the clause. So it’s a very clear situation…” Schmidt said.

“What the club is doing who wants to buy Enzo…
