Brentford are set to sign Freiburg winger Kevin Schade in a deal that could be worth £22m – with the 21-year-old flying to London for a medical after agreeing an initial six-month loan with the Bees

Brentford are closing in on the signing of Freiburg forward Kevin Schade in a deal which could reach £22million.

The day after stunning Liverpool 3-1, the Bees have agreed a six-month loan deal for the young winger, which will become an obligation to buy if he achieves certain add-ons relating to his performance (for example goals or assists).

And if those clauses are met and Brentford are required to buy Schade, they will be spending £22m to make the transfer permanent.

German age-grade international Schade, a long-term target for the club, who tried to sign him last summer, is flying to London on Tuesday to complete a medical with the Premier League outfit.

Schade, who has four goals in five caps for Germany’s Under-21 side, has one goal in eight league games this season for title-challenging Freiburg, with two in 12 appearances in all competitions.

The 21-year-old can be used on the right wing and up front and is considered cover and competition for talisman Ivan Toney, who has been charged with breaching FA betting rules and may receive a significant ban if found guilty.

But Schade is more of a future prospect and so if Toney is banned, it is believed the club will seek out a more experienced replacement in the January transfer window.
