Paul, Scardina Selected In 2023 MLS SuperDraft


SEATTLEIlijah Paul and Nick Scardina of the Washington men’s soccer team saw their professional dreams become reality on Wednesday afternoon during the 2023 MLS SuperDraft.
 
On Tuesday, it was announced that sophomore forward Ilijah Paul signed a Generation adidas contract which gave him the ability as an underclassman to be drafted. He is one of 11 underclassmen to earn a contract.
 
Paul was the first Husky off the board after Real Salt Lake traded up for the No. 7 overall pick. He becomes the third Washington player drafted in the Top 10 in the past three years.
 
Scardina became the second Husky selected in the SuperDraft, going in the second round to Charlotte FC. Scardina tallied 11 goals and four assists for Washington this past season on his way to earning First Team All-Pac-12 honors.
 
Lucas Meek, who was drafted last season by Inter Miami FC but came back for a sixth season on Montlake, will head to south Florida to join former teammate Ryan Sailor.
